What’s is so new about New Year? Is it simply the start of another year? If so, why not call it “Next Year’s Day”? After a short winter’s break the most evident change that I see in my classmates are their weight, they have grown indeed! There are only a handful of people who have done something productive in their vacation time. These handful of people has changed, in some sort of way, for the better. These people are committed, and that makes all the difference.
We call it New Year because along with the next year brings us a challenge. A challenge to be new, different compared to the previous year. I like the illustration I read about life: it says that life is like a downward escalator where our greatest enticement is to do nothing at all. So if nothing ever new ever happens in our lives, we are actually spiraling downwards. It is only a matter of time till we get tired of the way we live our lives and end up doing something stupid to try to satisfy our longings for something new, something different.
This New Year, remember this: Stop Listing, Start Living.
