you're reading...

Have you ever tried reading classic stories, novels, and the such. Beautiful aren’t they? But notice that the term teenager never pops out in those books (really! check it).  This is because the term teenager hasn’t been invented before. Thi s verse fro m the ancient times makes it clear: “When I was a child I talked like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” Nothing is said of a time between that of a child and that of an adult.

Teenager is now an invented term used to define someone who is too young to be an adult and too old to be a child. It’s sort of a permit the culture has given us to waste our lives before we take actual responsibility. It is, what they say, the best years of your life because you have no responsibilities. And yet there are examples of people who lived otherwise, people like David Farragut and Labaw Donggon. It is better to believe that the best years of ones life should be the present time they have and this is easier to attain if they live the life of a teen right and the first step is to reject this legend, or as someone properly termed The Myth of Adolescence.
